What is the role of a Dental Hygienist?

Dental Hygienists are specially trained to work with Dentists in giving dental care to their patients. They play a very important role and are mainly concerned with ensuring and maintaining impeccable oral health.

Dental Hygienists have both clinical and health promotional responsibilities. Clinically they help to treat and prevent periodontal (gum) disease by scaling and polishing teeth; they can take dental radiographs and undertake monitoring and screening procedures.

Dental Hygienists are also permitted to apply topical fluorides and fissure sealants in order to reduce dental caries (tooth decay). Their Health Promotional role includes motivating and encouraging individuals and groups in oral health practices including oral hygiene and diet advice.

Why is this treatment so important?

Regular professional cleaning, combined with motivation and advice on how to improve your dental care routine at home will produce huge dental benefits.

Research has shown that good dental health significantly reduces the risk of filling replacement, new cavities, gum recession, food trapping and teeth drifting.

Gum disease is also linked to Heart disease and there are concerns about poor gum health and pregnancy.

How does AIRFLOW® clean my teeth?
AIRFLOW® works through the projection of tiny carbonated particles and water pressure combined in a high-powered jet which gently but effectively removes stains from teeth, including hard to reach areas. The AIRFLOW® Teeth Cleaning system provides incredible results without any risk of damaging your teeth. The results are immediate and the difference is noticeable as soon as the AIRFLOW® dental treatment has been completed.

Does it hurt?

How long will the treatment take?

What makes EMS air flow different?

  • Its gentle and generally pain free
  • It preheats the water so less sensitivity while we are working
  • It uses specially formulated powders which are anti bacterial and the effects can last for up to 90 days
  • The powder has a gentle flavour to it
  • It avoids us having to manually scrub your teeth
  • The pressure flow spray gets into all the hard to reach areas of your teeth giving you a comprehensive clean
  • The system can be used to flush out any gum pockets you may have helping to keep things healthy
  • Airflow can actually help reduce the sensitivity of your teeth, this is due to the bicarbonate in the jet, which can fill any exposed dentine tubules and help re-mineralize teeth.
